After 25 years in the Information Technology field, I've decided to switch gears, and I'm entering my second year, as a Psychology major. This feels more correct for my spirit. Brenda, I am very impressed with your accomplishments and your current mission. The work that I did during my lifetime was working with inner city children and I did that for forty years. During my years I went from working directly with children to supervising people who worked directly with children.
When I became the teacher I developed a vision, mission and a teaching style so the things that I learned could be passed on to our children. I made power point presentations on Child Abuse, Interviewing techniques and Substance abuse which I conducted during the year.
I also developed an Orientation for new and returning summer staff which numbered around 400. I was very proud of what I did and hopefully the philosophy that I spoke about was picked up and still in use by my staff today.
After reading your life story I felt compelled to share this with you. Over the past few days I was thinking of how I would put my thoughts down; this is why I didn't get back to you immediately.
See Ms. Williams you have the tools to go out and reach people and that is very important. There is a movie with Richard Dryfuse called Mr. Hollands Opus. And without going through the entire move, near the end of them of the movie when it became time for him to retire he questioned how effective he was as a teacher and he gave his reasons why to his friend and when I know that the movie is on I try to catch that part because those are my thoughts coming out of his mouth. Because you don't want to put your heart and soul into make a difference in a childs life and feel you came up short.
Brenda, continue to fight-the-good-fight and if you reach a handful of people which I'm sure you have already, you are the winner that I know you are
